![]() ![]() One scientific study found that the aroma of jasmine helped boost participants’ mood without leaving them feeling sleepy. It’s used extensively in perfumery, and the flower has a long history as an aphrodisiac. The exotic aroma of jasmine is pure magic and helps me relax instantly. ![]() Jasmine is another oil that can get pretty pricey, but if you can splurge, it’s totally worth it. Try this blend to help you feel calmer, and use it as a perfume! Many find the aroma of rose to be incredibly relaxing, and when it’s combined with other florals or citrus oils, you can create a truly enchanting aroma. However, when combined with bergamot and frankincense, you have a well-balanced blend that is fantastic to use after a long, stressful day.Įven though rose is a pretty pricey essential oil, it’s still a great one to have in your repertoire. Honestly, if you enjoy the aroma of clary sage, it can even be used on its own. This works out well for me since clary sage is one of the most frequently used essential oils to help with relaxation and depression. I can’t quite pinpoint why, but there is something about the aroma that is completely magnetic to me. I have a confession to make: I am completely mesmerized by the smell of clary sage. Research has found that bergamot is beneficial for reducing anxiety and stress, which explains why it’s one of the most popular essential oils for serenity. However, bergamot and mandarin are especially well-known for promoting a calm environment. I personally find any citrus oil to be relaxing when I need to mellow out, so I frequently use them in my anti-stress blends. So if you’ve had a rough day, try this blend-it’s not only deeply relaxing, but it also makes a wonderful cologne! Plus, it has a long history of use as a calming aroma, and a recent study found that emergency nurses that inhaled patchouli reported lower levels of stress. ![]() Personally, I’m not a huge fan of patchouli by itself, but I absolutely adore it in small amounts combined with other essential oils. The grounding aroma of vetiver combines exceptionally well with the relaxing, sweet aroma of chamomile and lavender. The combination of these three oils produces not only an incredibly lovely aroma, but it’s also excellent for helping you chill out. In fact, a study published in 2016 found that when postpartum women inhaled lavender essential oil repeatedly, it helped with stress, anxiety, and depression. It’s no secret that lavender is one of the best essential oils to help calm you when you’re feeling overwhelmed. This is a great recipe as-is, or it can even be used as a base if you want to add another oil or two. I am frequently using some variation of this blend. Use these blends in your diffuser, and feel free to adjust the recipes based on your diffuser’s specifications and your personal preference. So feel free to grab a single bottle and sniff away or consider trying one of these calming blends the next time you need to relax! They work in harmony, often enhancing each other’s benefits. While any essential oil aroma that you find pleasant has the potential to bring you comfort and help you feel at peace, a number of them have a long history of use for promoting a relaxed atmosphere.Įssential oils can certainly be used individually, but they also work exceptionally well when combined. This alone can help us pause and “reset,” but it’s good to know that several essential oils have beneficial properties to help when we need to be calm. There’s just something so tranquil about deliberately stopping what you’re doing to inhale deeply the calming aroma of essential oils. One of the best ways to use essential oils is to help promote a calm and relaxed environment.

But whether they do or not, RSS is here to stay. Email users, like RSS users, can scan the subject lines and either read the article, delete it, or stow it for later, just like with RSS.Įven though their business model is based on subscriptions, there’s no obvious reason it couldn’t be adapted to work with RSS and I’d love to see that. One of Usher’s points is that sites like Substack operate by distributing their content by email and that’s not sustainable but it’s not clear her claim of unsustainability is true. What we need is for more people to realize what serious people have always known: if you have something consequential to say, you probably can’t say it in 140 (or even 280) characters and you need to either start a blog or use something like Substack. And now we have the less positive news here. ![]() Yet even then its accuracy is still a bit off. It performs a standard calibration using a checkerboard pattern. I originally got the focal length for my camera lens from calibration using the sample program (calibration.cpp) in the OpenCV 2.x directory. One can improve the results further by taking into consideration for radial distortion, but I’ll leave that as an exercise to the reader. There is no doubt a vast improvement by introducing non-linear optimisation to panoramic stitching. Much better! Not perfect, but much more pleasant to look at than the previous image. The reported root mean squared error is 3.84413 pixels. Panoramic stitching with non-linear optimisation I’ll now turn on the non-linear optimisation step for the 4 parameters mentioned previously. The results are without a doubt awful! Looking at it too long would cause me to require new glasses with a stronger optical prescription. The root mean squared error reported is 22.5008 pixels. Panoramic stitching without non-linear optimisation ![]() Below shows a close up section of the roof of the house without optimisation. For comparison I’ll be using the full size images (3872 x 2592), which is not included in the sample directory to keep the package size reasonable. I thought it would be interesting to compare results with and without any optimisation. I decided to optimise the focal length, yaw, pitch, and roll for each image. One of the crucial steps to getting good results is the non-linear optimisation step. Sample results from Simple Pano Stitcher Discussion If I had taken it on a tripod instead of hand held it should be less noticeable. On close inspection there is some noticeable parallax. Results with Simple Pano Stitcherīelow is a sample result I got after combining all the layers, by simply pasting them on top of each other. To keep things simple I only wrote the bare minimum to get it up and running, for more information check the comments in main.cpp at the top of the file. You’ll need to know the focal length in pixels used to capture each image. Edit the source code to load your own images. I’ve included sample images in the sample directory, which the program uses by default. It will output a bunch of layer-xxx.png images as output. To compile the code just type make and run bin/Release/SimplePanoStitcher. It uses OpenCV to do fundamental image processing stuff and includes a public domain Levenberg-Marquardt non-linear solver. In the meantime you can check out my Simple Pano Stitcher program here: I believe OpenCV is scheduled to include some sort of panoramic stitching engine in future release. In the process of doing so I learned some new things along the way. Being the practical man I like to think of myself, I decided to finally get down and dirty and write a simple panoramic stitcher that should help beginners venturing into panoramic stitching. In the past I’ve received emails from people on the OpenCV Yahoo group asking for help on panoramic stitching, to which I answered them to the best of my knowledge, though the answers were theoretical. ![]() wants differentiation is much less important once you make enough money. You’d hardly let 30% of your limited resources be wasted on wants when you don’t have enough for all your needs! If your income is low relative to the cost of living in your area, I can tell from personal experience (when I first arrived in the US, had a negative net worth, and was earning only $31,000 to take care of a family of 4) that you’ve likely become expert in ferreting out those expenses that you can do without and cutting them back mercilessly.
